The quadratic formula is used to solve any quadratic equation: equations of the type: ax^2 + bx + c = 0
This is the quadratic formula. For any quadratic equation, for example, x^2 + 6x - 2, you identify a = 1, b = 6, and c = -2. Then, you plug the numbers in.
x = -6 plus or minus square root(36 + 8)/2
x = (-6 plus or minus sqaure root 44)/2
x= -3 plus or minus square root 11.
So there are two possible answers for this equation. It is possible to have no answers at all if the square root is negative, or one answer if the square root is zero.
